I visited Yonkers Professional Hospital in 1976 and again in 1980 for surgical procedures by Dr. David R. Wesser. After many of the university-based gender identity clinics of the 1960s closed, the work was taken up by private physicians such as Stanley Biber, who made Trinidad Colorado famous. But less famous was the work being done by surgeons such as Benito Rish and David Wesser at Yonkers Professional Hospital near New York City. Here’s the story of the hospital and the physicians who made it a mecca for trans-related surgery in the 1970s.
